What Is a Good Timeline for Planning My Move?

Moving takes a lot of coordination, preparation, and consideration. In order to ensure you have everything done by moving day, it is important that you plan accordingly. National Van Lines has more than 85 years of experience, so be confident we are experts in moving efficiently and effectively. Here are a few tips on establishing a good timeline for planning your move.

Tip 1: How Big Is Your Home or Business?

Depending on the type of move you plan on making, the first step in determining the amount of time you need is to look at the square footage of your building and/or home. To move a family home, you will need approximately six weeks.  If you are moving a larger office or multi-family home, you may require an additional month.

Tip 2: Packing Considerations

If you have many fragile items, it may take you longer to pack. If some of your items need custom crating, you will want to allow yourself a bit more time. Packing often goes much faster when you hire a professional company. If you are short on time, it may be worth it to hire a bit of help!

Tip 3: Too Much Is Better than Too Little

When determining a timeline, it is better to overestimate the time you will need. After all, There is nothing more stressful than running out of time. When you allow yourself six to eight weeks, your move will be less stressful.
