New Agent Addition: Fitton Moving & Storage

National Van Lines press releaseBroadview, IL Sept. 16, 2019—National Van Lines proudly welcomes Fitton Moving & Storage, Inc. to our cross-country-moving family, adding to National Van Lines’s New England presence.

In addition to covering key markets within its home state of Massachusetts, Fitton Moving & Storage’s reach extends to regions in neighboring Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Based in Fitchburg, MA, Fitton Moving & Storage opened its doors in 1988 under owner David J. Arsenault’s leadership, but traces its origins back decades earlier. “My grandfather started the family business in 1945 as Peter & Son Movers,” David said. “My father took over the company, then sold it in 1986. Two years later, I bought the rights to Fitton.”

Fitton Moving & Storage

A true family business spanning four generations, the Fitton Moving & Storage team today includes David’s wife, Sylvia Arsenault, as a consultant; son David Arsenault (in operations); and sister-in-law Margaret Burns as office manager.

“It’s important to me to have family members on the team,” David said, “because family members go out of their way to make sure things are done correctly.”

That family sense of obligation also governs National Van Lines’ employee-owned, “not-so-corporate” culture. “We regard our coast-to-coast team of interstate-moving agents not only as business partners,” National Van Lines Executive VP Mark Doyle said, “but as family members.”

David considers himself a lifelong mover inside-and-out. “This is the only business I know. I was born and bred in the relocation industry,” he said. “I know all aspects of the moving industry.”

Why did David pick National Van Lines among the competing interstate-moving van lines? “Being a mid-sized van line, National Van Lines is more personable. Plus, my son is getting ready to take over, so I think this is a good fit for him.”

David doesn’t rely on a tried-and-true method for expansion. Instead, he prefers varying his efforts to widen Fitton Moving & Storage’s scope. “My goal is growth. It seems I am always doing something different to drum up business, and have always been successful in doing so.”

“We at National Van Lines admire David’s quasi-experimental approach and his avoidance of running his business by rote,” Mark Doyle said. “We’re looking forward to trading new ideas in the years ahead.”

“We’re beyond thrilled to be working with National Van Lines,” David said. “We’re ready for a bright and prosperous future. Onward and upward!”
