Maureen Beal

CEO and Chairman

Since taking over as CEO for National Van Lines after her father’s passing in 1993, Maureen Beal has seen the organization, started by her grandfather, enjoy steady double-digit growth. She plays a vital, hands-on role, maintaining that the company should “never be so large as to lose sight of the personal connection we have with our family of agents and drivers, and of course, our customers.”

Maureen serves on the Board of Directors of the American Moving and Storage Association and is a past director of the Household Goods Carriers Bureau. Having served as chairman of the American Cancer Society Board of DuPage County, IL, she is an advocate for women’s health issues. Actively involved in community service, Maureen is the immediate past chairman of the Board of Aspire, an organization that works with children and adults with developmental disabilities. Currently, Maureen is a trustee for Benedictine University, an associate at Northwestern University, and a board member for the Humanitarian Project of Carol Stream, IL.

Tim Helenthal

President & COO

Selected to serve as CEO Maureen Beal’s successor, Tim began his career in the moving and storage industry in 1994, as Manager of the Total Quality Assurance Program (TQAP) for National’s military division. In 2000, he was named Vice President of Agency Services for Military.

His experience with TQAP led Tim to develop in-company programs which identify and select quality suppliers for household goods relocations, while monitoring trends within the DOD Personal Property Program and interpreting and executing ever-changing government guidelines. He oversaw the development of National’s “PREVENT” quality control program, which includes the Military Procedures Manual, a DOD-specific training resource for all moving agents and drivers.

Committed to industry improvements, Tim currently serves as a member of the Executive Committee for the Government Traffic Committee for the American Moving & Storage Association, was elected to serve on the Executive Committee of the International Association of Movers, and is Chairman of the National Defense Transportation Association’s Household Goods Sub-Committee.

Gerry Mundt

Vice President of Finance

Gerry started his career in accounting at Arthur Andersen before serving 21 years with US Cellular. Well versed in the needs of a multi-faceted organization, Gerry states, “It has been a daily challenge to learn about the moving industry. Since my arrival at National Van Lines, the employees and agent family have placed their confidence in me, which enables me to contribute to the company’s ongoing success. I look forward to helping National Van Lines continue to be a major player in the moving industry for many years.”

A Certified Public Accountant, Gerry obtained his degree from Loyola University. He and his wife, Regina, live in Chicago’s Edgebrook neighborhood. In addition to following the activities of daughter Katie (15) and son Tim (13), the family enjoys the arts, sports and physical fitness.

Jorja Coulter

Vice President - Customer Experience & Quality

Since joining National in January of 1998, Jorja has initiated a corporate-to-agent communication program (Team Support), developed an award-winning National Account brochure, and implemented National Van Lines’ “whale decal” program expanding their sponsorship of the environmental artist Wyland.

A 43-year industry veteran, Coulter writes a monthly newsletter for moving and storage sales and customer service representatives, as well as regularly published articles on claims prevention and quality assurance. Previously, Coulter was employed by Allied Van Lines’ Professional Sales Association as manager of sales and customer service training. In addition, Jorja has served as a consultant to Fortune 500 firms, conducting sales and customer service seminars for such organizations as AMA, PepsiCo, ITT Sheraton, AT&T Bell Laboratories, Burroughs and Unisys Corporation.

Jorja, a Certified Moving Consultant, is a strong advocate for the American Moving and Storage Association’s certification program, promoting continuing education and ethical sales practices in the relocation industry.

Mike Yost

Vice President of Operations, HHG and Special Commodities

In 1975, as a high school student, Mike Yost took a part-time job loading trucks at a moving company, with no idea that it would set the course for his future. Two years later, he went on the road with a driver and was hooked. He left the moving business briefly to obtain his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University, but returned as a dispatcher for Bekins in 1983. At National Van Lines for the past 23 years, and with 35+ years of experience under his belt, Mike serves as Vice President of Household Goods Operations and Special Commodities.

Ben Jude

Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Agency Development

Ben came to National with over 20 years of direct sales and operational experience in the transportation industry.  Previously, Ben worked for Johnson Logistics as Vice President of Business Solutions. He’s held various positions in the industry, where he had P&L management responsibilities in sales, operations, business and IT system development for all logistics activities. He also has experience working with rates and tariffs, sales training and many other areas related to sales growth. He is highly respected in the industry and is a great addition to our team. With experience at the agent and van line level, his background gives him a great advantage to see how things are done from many perspectives.

Ben states, “I knew immediately after speaking with Tim Helenthal that National Van Lines would be a perfect fit for me to apply the knowledge and experience that I had gained over my career thus far. The hands-on operational and sales experience that I have obtained will be invaluable in helping to understand the hurdles that agents go through on a daily basis. In addition, I’m excited to have the opportunity to help the NVL agency family develop capabilities using alternative, profitable sales verticals such as O&I, international relocation and logistics.”

Ben received his Bachelor of Science degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona and his MBA in International Business from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri.

Greg Moore

Vice President of Information Technology

Greg sets the direction for National Van Lines’ Information Technology to help achieve the company’s goals. Greg has 25+ years of progressively responsible IT management experience creating and leading the delivery of business/technology solutions that streamline and optimize operational performance, service, and cost efficiency across complex organizations.

After receiving his degree in Business Admin and completing the curriculum for Computer Information Systems at Aquinas College, Greg has progressed through technology from programming, networking, and systems administration to management roles and ultimately Vice President at National Van Lines. His many years and wide variety of experiences bring comprehensive value to the National Van Lines team.

His community service includes volunteering his time and contributing to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

Paul Gregory

Director of Sales Development, Western Regional

Paul grew up in London, England, and came to the United States in 1990 as an “adventure.” Who knew it would be in the moving and storage industry? He worked for Mayflower for nine years before becoming an agent for National Van Lines in 1999. During that time, Paul was successful in developing a newer sales style that focused on understanding the Internet consumer and how best to connect with those prospects. In his 24 years in the industry, Paul has experienced all aspects of moving and storage all over the country. Paul has lived in Portland, Denver and Chicago and now is back on the West Coast. Paul’s 18 years as a van line agent allows him to bring a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the agents’ perspective to the Van Line and has served well in the field and hands-on training at agents’ locations. Paul joined National Van Lines’ corporate offices six years ago as Director of Sales Development, creating programs and working directly with the agent owners, general managers and sales personnel. According to Mark Doyle, National Van Lines VP of Sales and Marketing, “Paul was one of the top bookers in private relocations during his agent days and has made a commitment to share that knowledge with our agent family today.”

Dick Scaffa

Director of Sales Development, Eastern Region

Dick grew up in New York so we have to forgive him for being an avid New York Giants fan. Dick’s 33 years in moving and storage include both agency and corporate positions. He is well versed in sales, sales management, and operations.

Representing Graebel Van Lines in the 1980s, Dick spent time in Connecticut, Chicago, and Philadelphia. In the 1990s, he managed a Mayflower agent location and later moved to Mayflower Corporate as the regional director of the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Dick joined National in 1999 as Eastern Regional Manager. His responsibilities include recruiting, sales development & training, and agency relations. He lives in southern New Jersey with his wife and has two grown children and two granddaughters.

Shelly Zachary

Director of Agency Services

Shelly grew up right here in Illinois and still lives in her home town. She began her career in the moving and storage industry in 1989 in the Agency Development department at Allied Van Lines and joined National Van Lines in 2003. Shelly is responsible for agent training and on-boarding new agents, but also assists in agency relations, sales and marketing, vendor relationships, and national account contract and RFP reviews.

Shelly has developed a “virtual training” module to get new agents oriented to the Agent Network System, National’s rating software and the iSeries prior to an on-site visit. “Working with the new agents to make sure all of their computer software and systems are in place immediately after their start date has made a big difference,” states Shelly. “I feel that we are really delivering a personalized training program for our newest family members and our follow-up on-site visit is far more effective.”
