How to Make Moving Fun

While moving day can be chaotic and exhausting, there are ways that you can take your mind off of the craziness. Consider the following tips and you will find that you can eliminate a lot of stress.

Be Positive

This is probably the most important thing you can do. You and your family may be sad that you are leaving a home that you love and have lived in for years. However, while moving day can be scary, it’s also the first day of your exciting new life. Laugh, joke, and even sing! When you stay as upbeat as possible, you will find that attitude to be contagious.

Keep the Music Playing

Turn up a radio and keep the music lively. If you want to get creative, mix a couple of CDs with songs that everybody in the family loves. It could be one band or a variety of favorites. You’ll see that it will make the whole process of moving go a lot faster.

Don’t Forget the Food

Just about everyone will agree that great food can lift spirits. Think ahead about the kind of food you will have available on moving day. When it’s break time, you can make a picnic and include food that everybody can agree on. For example, order a batch of fried chicken or favorites from a nearby delicatessen. You also should consider some drinks and snacks for you, your family and the movers. This will help them as well when they get tired.

Make it a Party

Again, moving can be a sad time as you leave a way of life that you’ve loved for several years. However, that doesn’t mean the experience itself has to be depressing. Have a get-together the night before and invite friends, family members and neighbors. This will remind you of the great times you had in your home.

Make a Box Fort

When you arrive at your new home, your kids will love to build a fort out of the empty boxes you just unpacked. This is a great way for kids to expend their extra energy.

These are just some of the ways you can make moving more fun. If you have any questions about what to do in the time leading up to moving day or on the big day itself, call the experts with National Van Lines at 877-590-2810.
